The somewhat clumsy position of the bishop on d7 should justify the apparent loss of tempo.} (11. Nxd5 exd5 12. Bf4 Bf6 13. Ne5 Nxe5 {Led to exchanges and a draw in the aforementioned game, and was obviously unsuitable}) 11... Rc8 {While preparing for the game I had read that this move was supposed to be inaccurate, but it actually seems to be a very decent move.} (11... Ncb4 12. Bb1 {Gives the bishop a good post on c6, but leaves the e5-square for the white knight, which should give an initiative. }) 12. Nxd5 {It's not so easy to find another move here, as otherwise Black would play Ncb4 next. a3 might be on option though.} exd5 13. Ne5 Bf6 {While this move seems to be quite decent, a simpler way to gain good play is} (13... Nxe5 14. Rxe5 Bd6 $1 (14... Be6 15. Qh5 g6 16. Qh6 {with Rh5 to come is why Rc8 was considered dubious.}) 15. Rxd5 Bc6 16. Rg5 (16. Rh5 g6 {Apparently forces White to give perpetual check with Rxh7.}) 16... g6 {And because of the misplaced rook on g5 Black should have very decent play here.}) (13... Nxd4 14. Bxh7+ Kxh7 15. Black prevents the exchange on c6, which could in some lines lead to a difficult position.} 11. Bd3 {Now the bishop has no function on b5, and is transferred to the most active diagonal. The somewhat clumsy position of the bishop on d7 should justify the apparent loss of tempo.} (11. Nxd5 exd5 12. Bf4 Bf6 13. Ne5 Nxe5 {Led to exchanges and a draw in the aforementioned game, and was obviously unsuitable}) 11... Rc8 {While preparing for the game I had read that this move was supposed to be inaccurate, but it actually seems to be a very decent move.} (11... Ncb4 12. Bb1 {Gives the bishop a good post on c6, but leaves the e5-square for the white knight, which should give an initiative. }) 12. Nxd5 {It's not so easy to find another move here, as otherwise Black would play Ncb4 next. a3 might be on option though.} exd5 13. Ne5 Bf6 {While this move seems to be quite decent, a simpler way to gain good play is} (13... Nxe5 14. Rxe5 Bd6 $1 (14... Be6 15. Qh5 g6 16. Qh6 {with Rh5 to come is why Rc8 was considered dubious.}) 15. Rxd5 Bc6 16. Rg5 (16. Rh5 g6 {Apparently forces White to give perpetual check with Rxh7.}) 16... g6 {And because of the misplaced rook on g5 Black should have very decent play here.}) (13... Nxd4 14. Bxh7+ Kxh7 15. Qxd4 {is better for White, who will set up a healthy blockade on d4.}) 14. Bf4 {The most natural move, but probably not the best. The more circumspect} (14. Bd2 $5 {as suggested by the engines, might be a better chance for a small advantage, as} Nxd4 15. Bc3 {practically forces Rxc3, when White will enjoy a stable advantage.}) 14... g6 $6 (14... Be6 {I was a bit afraid of this fearless move during the game, which probably forces me to take on c6 with equality, as none of the direct attacking attempts connected with Qh5 seem to work.}) 15. Qb3 {Since 15...Nxd4 16.Qxb7 is good for White, I get a slight initiative after this. Additionally, Jan had already spent quite a lot of time, and was heading for time-trouble, which had been his greatest enemy so far in the tournament.} Na5 (15... Nxd4 16. Qxb7 Be6 $8 17. Qxa7 Nc2 18. Bxc2 Rxc2 19. Qd4 {should not give Black sufficient compensation.}) 16. Qb4 (16. Qxd5 Bc6 $1 {equalises after} (16... Be6 17. Qe4 {is not so good.}) 17. Qxd8 Rfxd8 18. Bd2 Rxd4 19. White would still only have a slight edge here:} 20. Qxb6 (20. Qd2 f6 21. Nf3 Nc4 22. Bxc4 Rxc4 23. h5 gxh5 {Without the light-squared bishop the white position didn't convince me at all.}) 20... axb6 21. Rad1 Nc6 22. a3 {with some slight chances for a long endgame grind.} Rc7 (22... Qd2 gxh5 {is decent for Black according to Rybka. How Black is going to survive after} 23. Nh4 {though, is beyond me.}) 22. Bb5 $2 { Very tempting, but giving Black some breathing room.} (22.
